I'm a 20 year old history student who spends way too much time talking about Tolkien, watching silent comedies and taking photos of signposts.

Thought I’d celebrate Tolkien’s life and work by sharing John Howe’s wonderful image of Smaug the Golden.
Tolkien pretty much sums up my entire childhood. When I was six my parents bought me the audio-cassette of a book called ‘The Hobbit’ and I used to play it over and over and over until I pretty much knew it off by heart. When my mum bought the audio-book for ‘The Lord of the Rings’ I was over the moon to discover that there were more tales about Middle Earth.
So thank you, J.R.R. Tolkien, for creating a masterpiece that captured my imagination as a child and continues to enthrall me now.
